Malayalam playback singer Chitra Iyer is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of her sister, Sharada Iyer, who died during a trekking expedition in Oman. The accident occurred in the rugged Jebel Shams region, often referred to as the Grand Canyon of Arabia, leaving the singer and her family devastated.

Chitra confirmed the news through an emotional post on social media, revealing that Sharada passed away on January 2 around 2 pm local time while trekking in Wadi Ghul, located in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. While the exact cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed, the singer described it as a “freak accident” that took place during the expedition.

“We are all heartbroken and deeply sad and grieving,” Chitra wrote, announcing her sister’s death. She followed the update with a deeply personal tribute that captured both grief and the intimate bond the sisters shared. Alongside a series of photographs of Sharada, Chitra penned a message that was raw, affectionate, and achingly human. “Run along, you feisty little banshee of a sister! You run too fast! But I’ll catch up… eventually… soon, I promise,” she wrote, mixing humor, love, and disbelief in the face of loss.

Her words painted a vivid picture of Sharada as a lively, outspoken presence in her life. Chitra spoke of missing her sister’s nonstop chatter, the shouting from the next room, and the everyday annoyances that now feel irreplaceable. What stood out was the honesty of grief, not sanitized or restrained, but full of memory, irritation, affection, and longing. The line “You run too fast” has since resonated deeply with readers, symbolizing a life that ended far too soon.

Sharada Iyer, 52, was a former manager with Oman Air and originally hailed from Thazhava in Kerala. She was the daughter of late agricultural scientists RD Iyer and Rohini Iyer. According to reports, she had returned to Oman on December 24 after visiting India to attend her father’s funeral, who passed away on December 11. Friends and family describe the timing as especially cruel, with the family reeling from one loss after another.

Sharada was reportedly trekking along marked paths with a group when the accident occurred. Authorities are yet to share detailed findings about the incident. Her body is being flown from Oman to Kerala, where her last rites will be performed on January 7 at the family’s ancestral home in Thazhava.

As messages of condolence pour in from fans, fellow musicians, and well-wishers, Chitra Iyer’s tribute stands as a reminder that beyond public identities and professional achievements, grief is deeply personal. In remembering her sister with humor, frustration, and fierce love, Chitra has given voice to a kind of loss many recognize but few can articulate.
