In a move set to shake up India’s reality television space, Balaji Telefilms has partnered with Netflix to bring back its headline-making reality format Lock Upp in a newly reimagined avatar. The collaboration marks a major moment for unscripted entertainment in India, blending Balaji’s instinct for high-voltage drama with Netflix’s scale and global streaming muscle.

Created by Ekta Kapoor, Lock Upp made waves during its original run for its unapologetically raw format, emotionally charged confrontations, and survival-led gameplay that pushed contestants to their psychological limits. Now, the show is set for a bigger, sharper, and more ambitious return, tailored specifically for today’s streaming-first audience.

The announcement was unveiled as part of Netflix’s global content slate reveal, where Lock Upp emerged as one of the platform’s key unscripted titles from India. Its inclusion signals Netflix’s growing confidence in high-engagement reality formats that spark conversation, generate cultural buzz, and travel well across markets.

Speaking about the collaboration, Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director of Balaji Telefilms, said the show has always been designed to challenge both audiences and creators. She described Lock Upp as a format that provokes thought, reflects unfiltered reality, and thrives on discomfort. According to Kapoor, partnering with Netflix has allowed the team to scale up the creative vision while staying rooted in bold, unapologetic storytelling. She added that the newly revealed poster is not just a promotional asset, but a statement of intent driven by shared creative ambition.

Echoing this sentiment, Sanjay Dwivedi, Group CEO and CFO of Balaji Telefilms, said the partnership is built on aligned instincts. He emphasised that Lock Upp represents the company’s continued commitment to originality and authenticity, promising a reality experience that feels impactful rather than formulaic.

Nitin Burman, Group Chief Revenue Officer, noted that Lock Upp was never meant to be just another reality show. He described it as an immersive experience designed to stay with viewers long after the finale. Bringing the format to Netflix, he said, elevates it into a premium entertainment property with richer production values, sharper narrative arcs, and moments built for widespread conversation.

Further details about the premiere date, host, and first-look footage are expected to be announced soon, as Netflix prepares to unlock Lock Upp for a new generation of viewers.
