The highly anticipated film Kuberaa, starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna, is now slated for release on June 20, 2025, after facing multiple delays and rescheduled dates. However, producer Suniel Narang recently revealed that Amazon Prime Video has warned of slashing the deal amount by Rs 10 crore if the film isn’t released on time.
Speaking to Gulte, Suniel revealed that Prime Video stuck to its guns when he asked the platform for a few more weeks because of potential post-production hold-ups.
He stated, "I requested them (Prime Video) to give me a few weeks’ time and a July date because there might be a delay in post-production. They said they’ll cut Rs 10 crore if I don’t release on 20 June as planned."
Given that Telugu films frequently appear on streaming services 28 to 30 days after their theatrical premiere, Suniel clarified the growing pressure on filmmakers about post-theatrical OTT releases.
He also expressed his worries about the industry's increasing reliance on outside platforms for a variety of services, emphasizing the necessity of more independence.
"And yet people say artists’ remuneration should be reduced. Why should we do that? India has a population of 145 crore, only 50 of them are superstars. They are gods, in my opinion. The issue lies with everything else but them. These other entities are happy irrespective of films being a hit or a flop," he added.
