Veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan has stirred a strong debate after posting a direct message to US President Donald Trump amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. In a sharply worded public letter shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor urged the US leader to stay out of India’s affairs and respect the country’s sovereignty.

The statement came at a time when geopolitical tensions have escalated following recent developments involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Kamal's remarks quickly began circulating online, drawing attention from political observers, film fans, and social media users alike.

And it also comes at a time when the United States announced it was granting a 30-day 'temporary' waiver to Indian refineries to continue their purchase of Russian energy.

In his message, Kamal Haasan stressed that India is a sovereign nation that does not take instructions from foreign powers. Addressing Trump directly, he wrote, “Please mind your own business to the best of your abilities. Mutual respect between sovereign nations is the only foundation of lasting global peace.”

The actor-politician also referred to India’s historical struggle for independence while underlining the country’s modern identity as a free nation. He reminded readers that Indians no longer live under colonial rule and therefore cannot be dictated to by external powers. According to Kamal Haasan, India’s voice in global matters must come from within the country rather than from “distant foreign shores.”

The letter also conveyed a broader message about diplomacy and respect between nations. Kamal argued that international stability depends on mutual understanding and restraint rather than interference in the domestic decisions of other countries.

He wrote that he wished the country “peace and prosperity,” highlighting that his message was not meant as hostility but as a call for respect between independent nations.

Kamal Haasan signed the letter as a “proud Indian citizen” and as the founder of his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam. The party, which he launched in 2018, focuses on governance reforms and transparency. In recent years, Kamal Haasan has balanced his political work with his long-standing career in cinema.

The 71-year-old actor continues to remain active in the film industry while pursuing political engagement. Known for iconic films across multiple languages, he has maintained influence in both cultural and political spaces.

Meanwhile, Kamal has several film projects lined up. He is set to reprise his role as the antagonist Yaskin in the highly anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. The actor is also expected to reunite with long-time colleague Rajinikanth for an upcoming film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, marking a collaboration between the two stars after decades.
