Gavin Casalegno, known for his performance in The Summer I Turned Pretty, has bagged a new romance comedy, Sunflower Child.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Gavin will portray a prospective Hollywood director who develops feelings for a budding playwright, played by British-American actress Jennifer James, who also penned the script.
This is Jamie Touche's first feature film as director and cinematographer. Maddie Close (The Other Bennet Sister), Muhannad Ben Amor (Andor), and Daniela Norman (Tiny Pretty Things) are among the supporting cast members.
The shooting of the film has already started in the United Kingdom and other locations in London.
According to the synopsis of Sunflower Child, James portrays a young screenwriter who becomes romantically involved with an ambitious filmmaker (Casalegno), who is "caught between the promise of Hollywood fame and preserving her artistic voice."
It continued, “As their romance blossoms over time, she soon comes face to face with the challenges of betrayal, the cost of success, and making the choice of saying no to the wrong version of her dream to follow her heart.”
James has teased the film as “an anthem for authenticity, for indie filmmakers, and what it really takes to get a foot in the door.”
Joseph Goldman will produce Sunflower Child under James' Austin and London-based company Double J Productions in collaboration with PickleJar Entertainment Group and Nebel Productions.
The film’s global sales are being handled by MSR Media International, which will also present the movie to potential purchasers at the European Film Market in Berlin the following week.
Famous for playing Jeremiah Fisher in Amazon's popular coming-of-age series The Summer I Turned Pretty, Casalegno will next be seen in the YA romance Chasing Red, costarring with Madelaine Petsch from Riverdale, and the Amazon MGM thriller The Devil's Mouth, costarring Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).
Additionally, he will be returning for the feature film adaptation of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon.
