Rob and Michele Reiner's death certificates reveal they died within minutes after ‘multiple sharp force injuries’

The official death certificates for legendary Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner have now been released, shedding further light on the tragic circumstances surrounding their deaths on December 14, 2025. According to the documents obtained from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, both Reiners died within minutes of sustaining “multiple sharp force injuries” inflicted with a knife by another person, official records confirm.

Rob, 78, best known for directing classics such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men, and Michele, 70, were found in the family’s Brentwood, Los Angeles home. The certificates list the time of death for Rob at 3:45 p.m. and Michele one minute later at 3:46 p.m. on the same day, underscoring how swiftly the fatal injuries took their lives.

The couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths. Law enforcement has alleged that Nick, who has a documented history of schizophrenia and mental health struggles, was responsible for the attack, although the case is ongoing and he has not entered a plea. Prosecutors have included special circumstance allegations tied to the severity of the alleged crime.

The Reiners’ daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered the bodies and called emergency services, according to earlier reports. The couple’s remains were later cremated, and the ashes were returned to family. The death certificates, now part of the official medical record, will likely play a key role in the prosecution’s case as legal proceedings continue.
