George Clooney’s sister Adelia ‘Ada’ Zeidler dies at 65 after battling cancer

George Clooney’s sister, Adelia “Ada” Zeidler, passed away at the age of 65 after battling cancer, the actor confirmed in a statement. Remembering her as his hero, Clooney said she faced the disease with courage and humor and will be deeply missed by him and his wife, Amal.

George Clooney's sister, Adelia ‘Ada’ Zeidler, passed away on Friday, December 19. She was 65. Adelia died from cancer.

George confirmed his sister’s passing to People. In the statement, the actor said, “My sister, Ada, was my hero. She faced down cancer with courage and humor. I’ve never met anyone so brave. Amal and I will miss her terribly."

Ada, of Augusta, Kentucky, passed away "peacefully surrounded by the people she loved" at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, Kentucky, according to her obituary.

Named for her great-grandmother, Ada was born on May 2, 1960, in Los Angeles to writer Nina Bruce Warren and journalist and TV host Nick Clooney.

The obituary states, “A talented artist, she shared her skills as an elementary art teacher at Augusta Independent School for several years. In high school, her academic achievements qualified her to be a National Merit Scholar. Her love for reading connected her with other readers in a local book club. She was also a member of the Augusta Art Guild and was a past grand marshal of Augusta’s Annual White Christmas Parade."

The obituary further revealed that Ada attended college in Louisville and Northern Kentucky and worked as a bookkeeper.

On March 14, 1987, she wed retired Army Captain Norman Zeidler in Augusta. According to the Kentucky Photo Archive, the entire family attended and participated in the ceremony, as did a large portion of their little Kentucky village.

Rosemary Clooney, the siblings' aunt, sang a romantic song for the newlyweds during the ceremony, while George read a passage from the Bible.

Ada led a secluded life and rarely appeared in public, but on September 27, 2014, she travelled to Venice, Italy, to witness her brother's wedding to bride Amal Clooney.

Ada's husband passed away on October 11, 2004, from a heart attack.

The obituary concluded, "In addition to her parents, she leaves behind her beloved children, Nick Zeidler and Allison Zeidler Herolaga and her husband, Kenny; her brother, George Clooney and his wife, Amal; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.”

Ada will have a funeral on Monday, December 22. According to her obituary, contributions should be sent to the Knoedler Memorial Library in Augusta.
