Fatima Sana Shaikh, who’s is gearing up for to upcoming films Metro… In Dino and Aap Jaisa Koi, recently opened up about her epilepsy journey, sharing a dramatic incident that changed her life during a flight.
In conversation with Humans of Bombay, she recalled an incident when she had a major seizure attack during a flight to the US. She said, "I had a major episode when I had multiple seizures. I was travelling to the USA and it was via Dubai flight. I got seizures on the flight. Then I was taken to the airport hospitals, I was given the medication but then also my seizures weren’t stopping, then they give me a very high dose."
Fatima further disclosed that she was heavily sedated and immobile due to the strong medication she was taking to control her seizures. “They gave me a certain chemical and I was already on a different chemical. So in epilepsy you have to wean off one chemical before you can take another one. So, I was drugged out."
Fatima also revealed that she had to put two important films on hold—Sam Bahadur and Dhak Dhak—due to a medical emergency. She cried when someone from the team asked if she could go back to shooting because she couldn't even get out of bed at the time.
The actress further stated, “I couldn’t get out of the bed. I was constantly dropped out. My emotions were all over the place. I was like this is my reality now. At that time I accepted that this is my disease and people also should know about it as it will help others."

Fatima then emphasised how she recovered with the help of support groups and treatment. "I got help from conversations and support groups, and now I am very much stable, and I haven’t gotten an episode since a while now."
Fatima will be next seen in Netflix's Aap Jaisa Koi co-starring with R Madhavan, followed by Metro... In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu. It is set to release on July 4, 2025.
