  • Film shows resilience at box office despite competition from Border 2
  • Dhurandhar 2 set for March 19 release in multiple languages

Aditya Dhar’s period spy thriller Dhurandhar, led by Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun, continues its historic box office run even after completing eight full weeks in theatres. On day 53, the film achieved a rare and significant milestone by entering the Rs 1000 crore gross club in India, a feat made even more remarkable by the strong theatrical performance of Sunny Deol’s Border 2.

Despite facing fresh competition from Anurag Singh’s big-budget war drama, Dhurandhar has managed to hold its ground at the domestic box office. According to the makers, Border 2 opened to a massive Rs 193 crore extended opening weekend in India. Yet, rather than collapsing under pressure, Dhurandhar showed resilience and bounced back during its eighth weekend.

The film saw its first dip below the Rs 1 crore mark on Friday, day 50, earning around Rs 55 lakh. However, the downward trend was short-lived. On Saturday (day 51), Dhurandhar added Rs 1 crore to its tally, followed by Rs 1.35 crore on Sunday (day 52). Republic Day proved beneficial for the film as well, with collections jumping to Rs 2 crore on Monday, day 53, as reported by Box Office Index.

After 53 days, Dhurandhar has collected approximately Rs 889.80 crore net in India. As per Sacnilk estimates, the film has now officially crossed Rs 1000 crore gross domestically. This makes it the only single-language Indian film to achieve the milestone and just the fourth Indian film overall to enter the elite club.

The only other films to cross Rs 1000 crore gross in India are KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 1001 crore), Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1417 crore), and Pushpa 2: The Rule (Rs 1471.10 crore). Notably, Dhurandhar stands out as the only non-sequel among them.

Globally, Dhurandhar has amassed around Rs 1426.80 crore, making it the fourth highest-grossing Indian film worldwide. The film is also expected to premiere on Netflix India on January 30, following the completion of its eighth theatrical week.

Meanwhile, the makers have already announced Dhurandhar 2, which will release in multiple languages on March 19, coinciding with the Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi holiday weekend. Backed by the unprecedented success of the first film, the sequel is already generating massive anticipation.
