BTS member J-Hope's newest single, Killin’ It Girl, featuring rapper GloRilla, has created waves since its release. It was initially banned by Korean broadcaster KBS due to concerns over promotional language in the lyrics. Good news is the track has now officially been cleared for airplay following a second review.
KBS had originally barred the track from being performed or promoted on its platforms, citing violations of Article 46 of the broadcasting review code. The network flagged the song for containing direct brand mentions, which were deemed “commercially promotional” and unsuitable for broadcast under KBS policy.
The ban was announced on June 11, just two days before the official release of Killin’ It Girl on June 13. In response, J-Hope and his team acted swiftly. Ahead of his scheduled appearance on Music Bank, a revised version of the song’s lyrics was submitted for reassessment. The updated version addressed the broadcaster’s concerns by editing out or replacing the problematic references.
KBS then conducted a second review. According to Korean media outlet IZE, the broadcaster has reversed its decision, deeming both the solo and GloRilla-featured versions of the song appropriate for broadcast. This allowed J-Hope to go ahead with his performance on Music Bank on June 20, marking the song’s long-awaited TV debut.
According to KBS guidelines, songs that are initially banned can be re-evaluated if modified to meet content standards. Once deemed acceptable, such songs are permitted for use across KBS’s television and radio programming.
Killin’ It Girl has already made a significant impact globally. The music video for the featured version hit 1 million views on YouTube in just 43 minutes—setting a new record for a K-pop artist in 2025.
