Before Tere Naam became one of Bollywood’s most enduring romantic classics, the title track of the 2003 film had a deeply personal connection to its star, Salman Khan — rooted in his real-life heartbreak following his highly publicised break-up with actress Aishwarya Rai. In September 2025, during a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Sameer Anjaan revealed this.
According to Sameer, the Tere Naam title track — featuring the poignant line “kyun kisiko wafa ke badle wafa nahi milti” was not originally written with Salman in mind. However, shortly after his split from Aishwarya in 2002, the words seemed to mirror his emotional turmoil, and the song took on a life of its own for him.
Sameer revealed on a podcast that before filming the sequence for the song during the Tere Naam shoot, Salman would call composer Himesh Reshammiya, ask him to sing it, and then break down in tears while listening to it. His wounds were still “fresh,” Sameer said, and the raw emotion he felt made it difficult to separate his personal heartbreak from his on-screen performance.
Their relationship, which began on the set of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999, was one of Bollywood’s most talked-about romances before it ended in 2002. While both stars eventually moved on with their lives — Aishwarya later married Abhishek Bachchan and became a mother — the emotional aftermath continued to echo through their work, particularly for Salman around Tere Naam.

Meanwhile, the cult classic romantic drama Tere Naam — starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla — is set to be re-released in theatres nearly 23 years after its original 2003 debut. The limited re-run has been scheduled for 27 February 2026, bringing one of the most emotional love stories of the early 2000s back to cinema screens across India through major chains like PVR and INOX.
