Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently came into focus after an old interview resurfaced in which he fondly recalled how Rajpal Yadav once helped struggling actors in the Hindi film industry.

The comments have gained attention as Rajpal Yadav navigates a difficult phase in his career, including surrendering at Tihar Jail in connection with a long-running cheque bounce and loan dispute case.

In the interview clip, Nawazuddin spoke warmly about his friendship with Rajpal and how, during the early stages of their careers, many actors found support at Rajpal Yadav’s home.

He had said, "A lot of people would eat at his home when Rajpal began to get good work, and he never complained. He always helped people. Not just me, when a lot of actors were struggling, his house was like a langar. Anybody could come and eat there. He jokes a lot, but in reality, he is a very sensitive human being."

The two actors share a longstanding bond that goes back to their formative years in theatre and acting training.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui noted that both he and Rajpal Yadav studied together at Bharatendu Natya Academy in Lucknow and later at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where they forged strong personal and professional ties.

Nawazuddin further said, "We only took training in acting for five years. If we speak academically, Rajpal and I have the most education in this industry (in acting). We don't look like it, but we're the most educated actors here (laughs). He is an amazing human being."

Nawaz’s recollections have struck a chord with many as Rajpal Yadav’s current legal and financial troubles continue to dominate headlines.

The veteran actor surrendered himself after failing to meet repayment deadlines in cases related to bounced cheques stemming from loans he took to finance his directorial project. Reports indicate the amount in dispute had ballooned due to interest and penalties, leading to his latest court-mandated surrender.

In response to his situation, several members of the film fraternity, including Sonu Sood, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and others, have stepped forward with offers of financial and professional support. The outpouring of solidarity has highlighted the deep respect many in the industry have for Yadav, both for his work and his past generosity.

On February 5, 2026, Rajpal Yadav appeared in court with a fresh repayment proposal, which was declined. He subsequently surrendered at Tihar Jail.
