Actor-comedian Vir Das was recently left surprised after Abhishek Banerjee, a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), brought him and his satirical monologue "Two Indias" during the ongoing Lok Sabha session.

Abhishek mentioned Vir during his address on the Union Budget 2026–2027 and stated that he thought it was a "warning." The actor has now shared his thoughts on the MP's statement in a video that he uploaded.

Reacting to Abhishek’s speech line by line, Vir expressed his shock, noting that this was the topic under discussion in Parliament.

The comedian and actor said, “In Parliament you…? Uh huh, where? Oh, crap. I am sorry, this is happening on the floor of parliament? Don’t do it. I remember some people laughed. (laughs) I’m sorry, some who were offended? Who? Who paused to listen? On the floor of Parliament?”

Vir added, “That’s what every single newspaper said, that it wasn’t. I’m sorry, you got a warning. No, I got a warning. Many warnings. A prophecy? In Parliament? No, it felt like broken glass. No, it was hiding in my house for a really long time. Where were you then?”

Additionally, Vir used the occasion to reveal the dates for his Hey Stranger – A Tour of the World.

He said in the video, “Wow. Well, folks, I’m leaving the country. I’m actually going on a world tour, and this feels like a really good time to announce it.”

What did Abhishek Banerjee say in the Lok Sabha?

During the ongoing Lok Sabha session, Abhishek called Vir's 2021 "Two Indias" monologue a "prophecy" on Tuesday.

He said, “Sir, in November 2021, on a stage, thousands of miles away, at the Kennedy Centre, Vir Das, a young stand-up comedian from India, spoke of two Indias. Many laughed, and some were offended.”

The Lok Sabha member added, “Few paused to listen, but what he offered was not comedy. It was a warning, a prophecy, a mirror held up to a nation standing at the edge of its own contradictions because I, too, sir, come from two Indias.”

What is Vir Das’ ‘Two Indias’ monologue?

Vir highlighted the nation's contradiction in a 2021 monologue about the "Two Indias" he was from at the Kennedy Centre. In India, he attracted criticism despite receiving a standing ovation at the performance. He was accused of "insulting the country" on a global stage in several complaints.

On her Instagram stories, actor-MP Kangana Ranaut responded to it by labelling his talk "soft terrorism" and calling for his arrest. In the following, Vir was subjected to severe abuse and concert cancellations, despite the fact that supporters and certain politicians, like Shashi Tharoor, defended him. Vir declined to offer an apology for his position.

On the film front, Vir recently directed, co-produced and starred in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, which was released on January 16.
