Actor Rajpal Yadav has been entangled in legal and financial troubles. Now, Sonu Sood is the first actor who has come forward to openly show his support to the seasoned comedian.

Sonu Sood shared a heartfelt statement on his social media, confirming that Rajpal Yadav will appear in his next movie. He has also asked the Hindi cinema industry to support one another during low times.

Sonu Sood took to his Instagram Story and wrote, “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal.”

He added, “He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us… producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity.”

The actor further noted, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”

For the unversed, Rajpal Yadav is currently dealing with the last stages of a protracted legal battle that began in 2010. To finance his movie Ata Pata Laapata, the actor reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd.

Rajpal reportedly faced financial difficulties following the film's box office failure, making payments challenging. The subsequent bounce of several checks submitted to settle the loan, resulted in legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Rajpal Yadav and his spouse were found guilty under Section 138 of the Act by a magistrate's court in April 2018 and given a six-month prison sentence. The matter persisted for years in spite of numerous appeals, and even after partial repayments—roughly Rs 75 lakh was paid in 2025—the remaining amount reportedly increased to around Rs 9 crore.

The case reached a turning point on February 4, 2026, when Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma denied the actor’s last request for a one-week delay to raise money, noting that repeated leniency could not be granted regardless of public status. The actor was ordered by the court to turn himself in immediately. Rajpal has since surrendered himself to Tihar jail.
