Bollywood actor Sonal Chauhan is among a growing number of travellers currently stranded in Dubai after escalating tensions in the Middle East prompted widespread flight cancellations and disruptions.

The actress, known for her debut in Jannat and other Hindi and regional films, took to social media to appeal directly to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance in returning home safely, saying that flights had been cancelled and there was “no clear way to return to India” amid the crisis.

Sonal Chauhan’s message, shared on her Instagram and X accounts, respectfully addressed the Prime Minister and tagged the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian consulate in Dubai, requesting government guidance and support for a safe return. “Hon’ble PM @narendramodiji, I am currently stranded in Dubai due to the ongoing crisis. Flights have been cancelled and no clear way to return to India. I’m seeking the government’s guidance and support to help me get back home safely,” she wrote.

She added, “I would be deeply grateful for any assistance from the Government and guidance for a safe return @meaindia @india_in_dubai.”

The disruption has affected many beyond Sonal; reports indicate that Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and other Indian citizens are also stuck at Dubai airport as flights remain suspended amid the volatile situation.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has issued advisories saying it is in contact with UAE authorities and airlines to assist Indians impacted by the temporary airspace closure.

The situation stems from a dramatic escalation in conflict after the United States and Israel jointly struck targets in Iran. Iran responded with retaliatory missile attacks that reverberated across the Gulf, leading to the temporary closure of airspace over several key transit hubs, including the UAE. As a result, Dubai International Airport and other major airports suspended operations, leaving thousands of passengers unable to continue their journeys.
