Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently found himself at the centre of fresh social media chatter after addressing the online criticism over his look in the teaser of Battle of Galwan. While the actor was primarily responding to trolling over his expression in the war film’s preview, a section of users on Reddit speculated that his comments also contained a subtle jab at fellow actor Sunny Deol — particularly about the shouting-intense style seen in Deol’s Border 2.
Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman himself, depicts a dramatized account of the real-life 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops and stars Chitrangda Singh opposite Khan. The teaser, released late last year, drew divided reactions as some viewers felt Khan’s serious wartime gaze looked oddly serene, with a few dubbing it “romantic” for a battlefield context.
At an Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) match in Surat, Salman was asked about the trolling. In response, he explained, “Ab kisi ko ye samajh mein ata hai ki ye romantic look hai, lekin Colonel hu bhaiyya. To ye, Colonel ka look hai jo ki samajhta hai ki apne team walon ko, apne jawano ko kaisa hosla de. Vaise hi look main inko bhi de sakta hoon… (Salman growls) uss look ka koi matlab hai nahi. Us look ka koi matlab hai nahi."

On forums like Reddit, some users interpreted Salman’s distinction between subtlety and loud expression as a possible “shade” at Sunny Deol, whose Border 2 performances — especially the shouted dialogues — have become a talking point among fans online.
One Reddit post went as far as to write: “Salman casually shading Sunny Deol’s unnecessary shouting in Border 2 while defending his Galwan trailer expression.”
“I don't think the battle of galwan will be better than the Border 2,” wrote another.
Another defending the actor wrote, “Not to Sunny paaji, its towards us the audience wanting everything the same as the best one in history…”
“I think he’s poking fun at himself, at the over-the-top shouting in some of his older films, not taking a dig at Sunny Deol. Sunny and Salman share a long-standing bond, even from before they started acting, so it doesn’t seem likely Salman would shade him.” wrote another.
However, it’s important to note that Salman and Sunny Deol are known to share cordial ties off-screen, and Khan’s remarks did not explicitly mention Deol by name — meaning the Reddit reading remains speculative rather than confirmed. Regardless, the exchange has stirred more anticipation and discussion around Battle of Galwan, which is scheduled to release in theatres on April 17, 2026.
