Ranveer Singh’s wedding-track costume in Dhurandhar is more than decorative flair. It functions as a narrative marker of Hamza’s status and the cultural world he belongs to. Designed by Smriti Chauhan in collaboration with Divani, the look balances grandeur with story-driven detail.
In an Instagram post, Divani reveals that the ensemble draws from the historic khilat tradition — ceremonial robes once presented to royalty. Instead of recreating an old silhouette, the team reimagined a Patiala-inspired khilat to retain historical weight while allowing for cinematic ease and character authenticity. The goal was to create a garment that feels lived-in and naturally part of Hamza’s universe.
The outfit features a heavily embroidered long coat layered over a textured inner garment, paired with voluminous bottoms and a carefully constructed turban. Traditional zardozi techniques form dense, structured motifs that convey rank without flashy excess. The earthy palette of browns, antique golds, muted metallics helps preserve the raw, period-forward look of the film.
Director Aditya Dhar stressed that Dhurandhar needed costumes that “belonged” to its world, not just looked impressive on screen. Months of collaboration between the designers and the film’s creative team ensured the pieces aligned with the film’s tone, character arcs, and continuity.
Dhurandhar centres on Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, played by R Madhavan, who orchestrates a dangerous mission to dismantle a terror network operating in Pakistan. Ranveer Singh delivers a gritty performance as a Punjabi youth recruited from prison and trained to infiltrate Karachi’s criminal underworld.
The film boasts a power-packed ensemble featuring Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan and Gaurav Gera. With its roaring success, the makers have already announced that Dhurandhar 2 will hit theatres on March 19, 2026.
