Anupam Kher praises Dhurandhar

As Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar approaches the end of its first week in theatres, the wave of industry admiration continues to grow. Following praise from Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and other Bollywood figures, veteran actor Anupam Kher has now shared an emotional, five-minute video review, calling the film “unbelievably amazing” and a major win for Indian cinema.

Anupam Kher posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a heartfelt note saluting the filmmaker and the cast. “BHARAT KI FILM: I watched #Dhurandhar on Monday night and immediately recorded this video… Thank you dearest #AdityaDhar for this जांबाज़, बेख़ौफ़, दिलदार and धुरंधर फ़िल्म! This film is also a #TRIUMPH for Indian cinema! A story about UNKNOWN and FACELESS INDIANS who are constantly risking their lives for us! Jai Ho! Jai Hind!” he wrote.

Reflecting on the impact the film had on him, Anupam said in his video, “The dialogues are amazing… ghayal hu isliye ghatak hu… Ranveer is fantastic. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, everybody… Akshaye Khanna, my God!”

He revealed that he immediately called Akshaye Khanna after walking out of the screening. “He said, ‘I’ll talk in detail tomorrow.’ I tried calling Ranveer also but his phone was switched off,” he shared.

Anupam Kher also explained why Dhurandhar resonated so deeply. “From India’s perspective, Dhurandhar is a very important film. India mein jo haadse hue hain aur padosi desh ka usmein kya haath tha sab cheezon ko bahut khoobsurat tarah se weave kiya hai,” he noted.

He also revealed a humorous moment from his phone conversation with the director. “I told Aditya on the phone, ‘Mata chadh gayi hai kya? Itni kamaal ki film banaayi hai!’ Toh bahut hase woh,” he said.

He reserved special praise for Ranveer Singh’s restrained, quietly intense performance, calling it a bold choice. “For a hero to play a henchman in a big commercial film, you need huge confidence to do that, and he has that,” he said.

The actor also applauded the film’s portrayal of the unseen intelligence officers who protect the country. “Quietly, they have shown how our IB and RAW departments, the faceless people, help us in keeping our country together. It is fantastic. It is a film that will make you proud to be Indian.”

Anupam Kher concluded by congratulating the team and shared, “Dhurandhar was a title which originally belonged to Satish Kaushik, and I was very happy to see acknowledgment,” he said.
