Veteran Bollywood actor Neena Gupta has candidly opened up about the challenging early phase of her career in Mumbai, revealing that her journey began with profound loneliness and financial hardship.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Gupta shared that when she first moved to the city to pursue acting, she arrived with no work, no money and no family. She said, "I felt lonely. No mom, no dad, no money. I was staying at someone's place who didn't want me there," she said candidly.

Speaking about that period, the Badhaai Ho and Panchayat star said she didn’t even dare to come to Mumbai alone and therefore travelled with her then-boyfriend. However, he eventually left her, leaving her truly on her own. "A wise person once said, 'You don't die of old age. You die of loneliness.' That resonated with me here," Neena recalled.

Neena Gupta also reflected on how, in addition to financial struggles, the absence of a mentor made navigating the complexities of the film world even harder. "I wish I had someone who would have guided me on the rules of entering the film business. One of the biggest disasters was doing the film 'Saath Saath'. The film was a big hit and I became very confident. And that was the end of it. Actresses who want to lead should not begin with comedy," she added.
