In an Instagram post that resembled a private conversation with her heart, Nandita Das paid homage to two individuals she held dear: Nilanjana Ghose, the late wife of filmmaker Goutam Ghose, who recently passed away, and the legendary actor Om Puri on the anniversary of his birth.
The actress and filmmaker shared two photos, one was alongside Om Puri, and another of Nilanjana, each capturing a moment that now lives only in memory.
In her caption, Nandita wrote with deep emotion, “Today is Om ji’s birthday, an actor and human being, I adored and admired. Miss him hugely. Also want to share my shock and grief on hearing that Nilanjana Ghose is no more. For many of us, she was the gentle and loving Khuku di. To some she was eminent filmmaker Goutam Ghose’s wife and costume designer.”
As someone who’s never shied away from expressing the layered truths of life, Nandita reflected on the suddenness of loss, adding, “I know life is unpredictable but when it actually is, one is not quite prepared for it. My deepest condolences to Goutam da, Oona (Anandi) and Ishan. And to everyone whose life she touched. She will be missed hugely.”

The two worked together on several films and stayed in touch over the years because they shared a dedication to respect and meaningful cinema.
A highly regarded costume designer who worked behind the scenes on many of Goutam Ghose's critically acclaimed films was Nilanjana Ghose, affectionately known as Khuku di. She was renowned for her warmth, quiet strength, and talent for using fabric and detail to make characters come to life.
