In the latest development in the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai, the police have detained five individuals in connection with the case. The investigation has now intensified, with authorities invoking stringent legal provisions against the accused.

According to the most recent update from news agency ANI, the Mumbai Police have applied the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the matter. An official confirmed that the accused will be produced before a special MCOCA court later in the evening.

Providing further details, the official stated, “Some of the accused are already involved in serious offences. The crime branch has invoked sections of stringent MCOCA in the case.”

The police have arrested Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), Swapnil Sakat (23), and Asaram Fasale in connection with the incident. Reports also indicate that Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar is among the wanted accused in the case. He allegedly claimed responsibility for the firing at Shetty’s residence.

Meanwhile, the Indian Film & Television Directors' Association (IFTDA) has strongly condemned the incident. The association has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging immediate intervention and enhanced security measures for members of the film fraternity.

The incident occurred when unidentified assailants fired four rounds outside the Bollywood director’s Mumbai residence at approximately 12:43 am, leading to heightened security deployment in the area and a swift response from law enforcement agencies.

A few days prior, the police had traced the Honda Dio scooter allegedly used during the shooting. The vehicle was reportedly purchased about four months ago by an individual based in Pune and later sold to one of the arrested suspects shortly before the attack. Investigators believe the scooter was deliberately chosen as part of a pre-planned operation, enabling the attackers to flee quickly and avoid attracting attention. Authorities are closely examining the circumstances surrounding the scooter’s purchase and transfer to uncover the full extent of planning involved in the crime.

The case has also drawn parallels to previous incidents in Mumbai, including multiple firing episodes outside actor Salman Khan’s residence, where the Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility in several instances.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish deeper links, motive, and the broader network allegedly involved in the attack.
