Malaika Arora’s 50th birthday last month was more than just a celebration but a testament to her refusal to let society or public opinion define her.
Malaika finally breaks silence and talks about how she faced intense scrutiny over her personal life, starting from her separation from Arbaaz Khan to raising her son Arhaan, now in his twenties, as a single mother, and even for choosing to find love again.
“I’ve learned to focus on my truth, and I don’t let negativity decide my self-worth. Trolls will be trolls, but I choose not to engage with that toxicity. My family, friends, and my own peace of mind matter more,” she told Hindustan Times.
Dance, Malaika says, has always been her true calling, far more exhilarating than acting. “It’s true, acting never gave me the same rush as performing a dance number. I enjoyed it, I really did, but dance feels like home to me,” she admitted.
She also addressed the outdated label of ‘item numbers,’ which used to feel limiting. “Definitely, the label ‘item number’ felt a bit limiting. But today I see so many artistes taking it as a creative challenge. The focus is more on performance, concept, and how a song fits into the narrative, instead of just being a visual treat. There’s more respect for what goes into making these numbers.”
Recently, Malaika was spotted at Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds attending a concert by Grammy Award-winning singer Enrique Iglesias.
While several videos of her enjoying the show went viral, one clip sparked particularly lively speculation. In it, she is seen dancing and interacting with a mystery man, leading fans and social media users to wonder if she may have moved on after her breakup with Arjun Kapoor.
Rumours of her dating someone younger quickly circulated online, though Malaika herself has said nothing about it.
