Ayan Mukerji has reportedly exited Yash Raj Films’ much-anticipated project Dhoom 4, which was expected to star Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. According to reports, the Brahmastra director decided to part ways with the film after “creative differences” emerged during the early stages of development.
As per Bollywood Hungama, Ayan Mukerji’s creative vision did not align with the direction in which the project was heading. The report suggests that the filmmaker, known for his strong emotional storytelling and visual flair, was not entirely satisfied with the script and its execution.
A source was quoted in the report saying, “He didn’t have much say in the screenplay and didn’t want to be on another journey of just execution.” The script for Dhoom 4 was reportedly written by Shridhar Raghavan, with Ayan primarily attached to execute the vision. The insider further added, “Ayan believes that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 were never meant for him. He wants to make films that have a wider scope for romance, drama, and storytelling with spectacle.”
Before officially stepping away from the project, Ayan Mukerji is said to have held multiple discussions with producer Aditya Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. Both were understanding of his decision, and reportedly sources confirmed that the parting was entirely amicable.
Following his departure from Dhoom 4, Ayan Mukerji has reportedly shifted his focus back to his ambitious Astraverse project. He is currently working on Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, which was initially expected to go on floors earlier but is now slated to begin production in 2026.
Despite Ayan Mukerji’s exit, YRF reportedly plans to continue with Dhoom 4 under the same banner. The production house is now looking at bringing in an in-house director to steer the project. While earlier reports suggested Ranbir Kapoor had already allocated dates for the film, other industry insiders hint that YRF might even consider a new actor for the lead role.
