Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has firmly denied any association with Jeffrey Epstein after his name reportedly appeared in the newly surfaced Epstein Files — a vast trove of documents connected to the late financier and convicted sex offender.

Anurag Kashyap addressed the speculation in a statement to HT City, calling the reports misleading and clickbait, and clarifying that he has never been involved in any of the activities detailed in the files.

The controversy began after emails and communications released by the U.S. Department of Justice showed a reference to a “Bollywood guy” and a “famous Bollywood director” in connection with planned events involving Epstein.

In some online discussions and unverified reports, this sparse reference was taken to suggest Anurag Kashyap’s inclusion in the files.

Responding to the speculation, Anurag Kashyap said “I’ve no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond” and rarely responds to most of them. He also noted that he has never visited Beijing, the location mentioned in some of the flagged documents that purportedly listed his name, and questioned the credibility of associating him with the files based on a random email exchange. “It’s some random email, that’s self-explanatory. The clickbaits in my name are more popular than my films,” he told HT City.

Importantly, media and fact-checking reports make clear that the mere appearance of a person’s name in the Epstein Files does not itself imply wrongdoing, attendance at events, or direct involvement with Epstein’s criminal network. The emails in question reportedly include lists of invitees or mentions of individuals alongside other public figures, but do not present evidence that any of those people interacted with Epstein or participated in illegal activities.

The Epstein Files have generated global attention in recent weeks, with high-profile names — including tech executives, politicians and artists — drawing scrutiny after unverified documents and emails were circulated widely on social media. In several cases, public figures like Bill Gates have already issued clarifications about their indirect or professional mentions in the files.
