  • No evidence Kashyap attended any Epstein events or met him

Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has once again found himself in the spotlight, but this time due to a connection many would call unexpected.

His name appeared in the recently released Epstein Files — a massive collection of documents linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — sparking a wave of discussions across social media.

The U.S. Department of Justice released over three million documents on 30 January, revealing emails and correspondences involving a wide range of prominent figures worldwide.

In the files, Anurag Kashyap is mentioned simply as the ‘Bollywood guy’ in exchanges between Jeffrey Epstein and individuals such as Giuseppe Bersani, Gino Yu, and Ornella Corazza.

These emails, which discuss Epstein’s planned trips to Cuba and other locations, list Anurag as one of the expected attendees at workshops on Buddhism, technology, and medicine.

However, it is important to understand that appearing in these emails does not confirm Anurag Kashyap attended any events or participated in Epstein’s activities.

In the correspondence, he is listed alongside other notable personalities, including Ben Goertzel, Bruce Damer, and DJ Spooky, often described as “cool people” invited to events in places like Shanghai. There is no evidence suggesting that Anurag Kashysap and Epstein were ever in the same place at the same time.

As the news spread online, reactions were mixed, with many expressing surprise at the sheer number of high-profile names mentioned in the files.

One Reddit user wrote, “Is this Epstein’s files or Chitragupt’s accounting book? Everyone’s in there. Afraid someday my name may show up somehow.” Another commented, “So many wealthy or influential people participated in Epstein’s criminal activities itself – that list is huge, let us go after them. Let us not go for those who were merely invited to these events.”

A third user joked, “Yeh Epstein files nahi, google search ho gaya hai, aisa lagta hai, search karunga toh mere istri wale kaa naam bhi niklega [This is not the Epstein files, it has become Google Search. If I search, I might find my laundromat’s name].”

Anurag Kashyap is not the only Indian film personality named. Actress Nandita Das also appears in the files, listed as a speaker at the 2015 “Lake District Festival” in the UK, organised by Jem Bendell.

The festival reportedly included music, kayaking, nature walks, yoga, tai chi, dance lessons, and storytelling workshops at Brathay Hall.

Anurag Kashyap has been keeping busy behind the camera, most recently with his two-part film, Nishaanchi. The first part hit theatres last year, while the second part was released directly on streaming platforms, allowing fans to catch the story from the comfort of their homes.

Meanwhile, his long-awaited project Kennedy, featuring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone, is finally set to reach Indian audiences. Recently, it was announced that the film will premiere on Zee5, although an exact release date is yet to be revealed.
