Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan skipped his regular Sunday ritual of meeting fans outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, this week, much to the surprise of his admirers. For decades, Big B — one of Indian cinema’s most beloved icons — has maintained the tradition of greeting fans who gather at the gates of Jalsa each Sunday evening, a practice he fondly documents on his personal blog.

In a heartfelt post on his blog, Amitabh Bachchan explained that although work was continuing with “some vigour,” he regrettably needed to take a break from his usual Sunday fan interaction. “The work continues with some vigour .. but .. a but appears.. and the day ends for me .. to take in the break of a Sunday … Sunday here … but none at the Jalsa Gate, regrettably … so save the energy of travel and shall meet up soon … till then … thoughts and thinking and even more in the silence of thought,” he shared, acknowledging both his gratitude for the fans’ love and the necessity of the pause.

Big B has made the weekly meet-and-greet an almost ritualistic expression of appreciation over many years, often posting photos and reflections from these Sunday gatherings where fans sing his praises, wave posters, and soak in a few cherished moments with the megastar.

While this Sunday was an exception, his bond with fans remains strong. Recently, he even fulfilled a special request from a neighbour and admirer, Nirmit Jesrani, inviting him into his home and posing for photos after fans’ regular “Sunday Darshan” outside Jalsa. Jesrani had described the meeting as an unforgettable experience, underscoring Amitabh’s reputation as humble and grounded despite his superstar status.

Amitabh Bachchan’s decision to skip the fan meet this week was met with understanding and support on social media, with many fans appreciating that even their favourite star needs time to rest or attend to other commitments. As always, followers are looking forward to his next “Sunday Darshan,” when he returns to greet the crowds once more.
