BMC Elections 2026: Akshay Kumar, wife Twinkle Khanna cast votes early; Sachin Tendulkar arrives with family

Actor Akshay Kumar and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar were among the earliest celebrities to reach polling booths on Thursday morning to cast their votes in the ongoing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections took place in Mumbai on January 15, several Bollywood celebrities and public figures arrived at the Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan polling station to complete the voting process. From Hema Malini to Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan, many big names cast their votes and also urged the public to perform their civic duties and vote.

Aamir Khan’s children, Ira Khan and Junaid Khan, were spotted at a polling booth in Mumbai as they stepped out to cast their votes. His former wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, was also seen at the polling station exercising her right to vote.

A while later, Aamir Khan also arrived to cast his votes. Shraddha Kapoor was seen flaunting her inked finger after casting her vote in the BMC elections, as she interacted with the media after casting the vote.

Actress-politician Hema Malini also cast her vote. Speaking to the media, she stated, "I urge everyone to come out and vote. Just like I came this morning to vote. If you want security, progress, clean air, and pothole-free roads in Mumbai, then we all have to take responsibility and vote. Only by exercising your right to vote will you be able to make Mumbai, which I believe is the best city in the world, even better. I request all the citizens of Mumbai to come and vote for the right people."

Actor Suneil Shetty also arrived at the polling booth on Thursday and after he cast his vote, he emphasised on the importance of voting and public responsibility. he said, "I think by far, this is one of the most important election so everyone should come out and cast their votes. We just keep complaining about the work of BMC. Today, we should do some work... We need to be with the BMC and help them make Mumbai better..."

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia was also photographed at a polling booth in Mumbai, where she arrived to vote for her representative in the civic elections.

Meanwhile, actor John Abraham was seen arriving at a polling station in Mumbai to cast his vote in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was among the first celebrities to arrive at a polling booth on Thursday morning to cast his vote in the ongoing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Videos circulating on social media showed Akshay arriving at the booth in the early hours. He was seen dressed casually in a striped shirt paired with trousers and acknowledged the photographers by waving as he entered the premises.

After casting his vote, Akshay interacted with reporters outside the polling station. Emphasising the importance of participating in elections, the actor urged citizens to come out and vote. Speaking to the media, he said, “Today is the BMC election… I would urge everyone to definitely vote so that we can choose the right person through voting.”

Akshay’s wife, author and former actor Twinkle Khanna, also arrived to cast her vote in the civic elections.

Sharing her thoughts with the media, she said, “I think it gives us a sense of control and power over the narrative. I am voting out of habit and hope.”

Veteran actor Nana Patekar was also spotted arriving early at his polling station to exercise his franchise. Actress Sanya Malhotra, too, was among the earliest celebrities to cast her vote on Thursday morning in Mumbai.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also turned up to vote in the 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. The former India captain arrived at the polling booth along with his wife, Anjali Tendulkar and other family members, drawing attention from voters and the media. Dressed casually, Tendulkar briefly interacted with election officials and fellow citizens and encouraged people to participate in the democratic process actively.

Polling is being held on Thursday across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. The civic elections come after an intense campaign and are being viewed as crucial for major urban centres, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena are contesting the elections together as allies under the Mahayuti banner, except in Pune, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to contest independently in most municipal corporations across the state.
