Arshad Warsi, who has recently made headlines for his comments on the Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD, has finally addressed the backlash he has been facing.
While attending the green carpet of the IIFA Awards 2024, the Golmaal actor addressed the backlash from his earlier comments and referred to Prabhas as a "brilliant actor."
While interacting with media on the IIFA 2024 green carpet, he remarked, "Everybody has their own point of view and people like to interpret noise. I spoke about the character, not the person. He (Prabhas) is a brilliant actor and he has proved himself again and again, and we know about it. And, when we give a bad character to a good actor, it's heartbreaking for the audience."
In an earlier episode of the podcast Unfiltered by Samdish, Arshad Warsi shared his thoughts on Prabhas' appearance in Kalki 2898 AD. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he wasn't fond of Prabhas' look, which he felt resembled that of a joker.
Warsi wished the filmmakers had chosen a more rugged style, akin to Mel Gibson's portrayal in Mad Max. He remarked, “I watched Kalki 2898 AD, and I didn’t like it. Mujhe bahut takleef hoti hai jab… Amit ji was unbelievable! I cannot understand that man. I swear, jitna power unmein hai, thoda sa mil jaaye toh life ban jaaye. He’s unreal.”
Arshad Warsi's remarks about Prabhas' appearance in Kalki 2898 AD stirred controversy, leading many of Prabhas' fans to view them as a personal attack. Not only fans, but several prominent figures from the South Indian film industry also criticized Warsi, suggesting that he could have expressed his opinions more tactfully.
In response to the situation, Nag Ashwin, the film's director, called on fans to refrain from allowing these comments to foster division between the North and South Indian film industries.
