It was a proud and emotional evening for Indian cinema as Lakshmipriya Devi’s Manipuri film Boong created history at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Becoming the first Indian film to win at BAFTA, Boong’s victory felt bigger than just an award — it felt like recognition for an entire region and its stories.

Backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, and produced with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures, the film won in the Best Children’s and Family Film category. Competing alongside major international productions, the win was both unexpected and deeply meaningful.

Joining the celebrations in its own signature style was Amul. The brand shared a witty topical illustration on social media congratulating the team.

The post read, "Amul Topical: Manipuri film Boong wins award at British Film and Television Arts." The caption cleverly added, "Boongratulaions! Amul...You BAFTA have it." The light-hearted tribute perfectly captured the country’s joy and pride.

At its heart, Boong is a simple, touching story set in Manipur. It follows a young boy, played by Gugun Kipgen, who longs to reunite his family.

Raised by his single mother Mandakini, portrayed by Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, he sets off with his best friend in search of his missing father. The film gently explores childhood innocence, hope and the quiet strength of a mother’s love — themes that resonate far beyond borders.

During her acceptance speech, Lakshmipriya Devi shared an honest reflection: "To walk up till here felt like the last few steps to reach a summit of a mountain we never knew we were climbing in the first place."

She also used the moment to speak about Manipur, saying, "I just want to use this opportunity to say that we pray for peace to return to Manipur. We pray that all the internally displaced children, including the child actors in the film, regain their joy, their innocence, and their dream once again."
