The recent controversy surrounding comedian Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent and content creator Ranveer Allahbadia has ignited a storm of debates on social media, with netizens questioning the perceived double standards in content regulation. The issue gained traction after Samay confirmed that he had taken down all episodes of his show, India’s Got Latent, from YouTube, following public outcry over a remark made by Ranveer.
On Wednesday, Raina addressed the matter publicly, stating that he had removed all India’s Got Latent videos from his channel due to the controversy. He assured full cooperation with the authorities in their ongoing investigation. “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
A day before his statement, the controversial episode in question was removed from YouTube under orders from the central government. Since its launch in June 2024, India’s Got Latent had aired 18 episodes before its abrupt halt. The removal of the content has sparked a larger debate about selective criticism, with social media users questioning why certain creators face backlash while others continue producing controversial content without consequence.
Many online users have drawn comparisons to Ekta Kapoor’s television dramas and reality shows like Bigg Boss, arguing that such content has often been more provocative yet has not faced similar scrutiny. One Twitter user pointed out, “Sad reality of Indian mentality. Ekta Kapoor’s shows pack more smut than what Ranveer Allahbadia said. But is there an outrage about that? No.” Another asked, “Ekta Kapoor jo karti hai kya wo sahi hai?” referring to her bold and often controversial storytelling style.

Is the content of Big Boss, Splitsvilla, AltBalaji, Ullu App etc acceptable to you??? Why selectively only target Ranveer Allahabadia and Samay Raina??Why no action on Salman Khan and Ekta Kapoor??? Hector Barbossa * (@AnujVat35570914) February 11, 2025
Additionally, reports emerged that authorities had visited both Ranveer and Samay’s residences, further fueling the debate about fairness in law enforcement. “Before going to their house, they should first visit Ekta Kapoor’s. Why this double standard in the law?” questioned a netizen.
Many believe that podcasters and comedians are unfairly scrutinised while mainstream entertainment producers continue to push controversial narratives without similar backlash. Some users even recalled past controversies involving AIB, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar, and MTV’s Raghu, emphasising how such incidents were quickly forgotten.
The viral clip that triggered the backlash featured Ranveer making a remark about parents and sex, which some viewers deemed inappropriate. The outrage led to multiple police complaints and widespread criticism of both him and Samay.
