Aasif Sheikh shares 1998 incident of Salman Khan’s reckless footpath driving

Salman Khan's off-screen antics with co-stars have often been as entertaining as his on-screen performances. Recently, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain actor Aasif Sheikh, who has shared the screen with Salman Khan in several films, recounted a memorable incident involving the actor's rash driving. In an interview with The Lallantop, Aasif Sheikh recalled how the two were once caught by the traffic police for driving on the footpath.

The incident took place during the filming of Bandhan (1998). Aasif shared, "We were young then and Salman had an Esteem at that time. He made me sit next to him and he started driving everywhere—on the footpath, on the road. I said, ‘Salman, pakde jayenge (we will get caught).’ He said, ‘Pakde jayenge toh yaar Salman Khan hain, ghabrao mat. (Even if we get caught, don’t worry, you are with Salman Khan).'"

He went on to describe what happened when they were stopped by the police. "He rolled down the window and the traffic police actually did not recognise him," Aasif recounted. "He was like ‘Isne toh pehchana nahi. Maine kaha shirt utaar shayad pehchan le. (He said he didn’t recognise me. I said remove your shirt, he might recognise you then).'"

Aasif Sheikh also shared a humorous anecdote from the shoot of Auzaar in Hyderabad. He recalled how a friend of his visited the set to show off his new car. In a playful mood, Salman Khan took the wheel and drove the car in a reckless manner to scare the friend. Since he was riding alongside a celebrity, Aasif's friend refrained from saying much during the wild ride. Afterward, Salman laughed off the incident, revealing it was all in good fun and just his way of teasing the guy.

Salman Khan’s history with driving incidents is not without controversy. In 2002, he was involved in a serious hit-and-run case, which resulted in one fatality and three others being injured. The legal battle stretched on for years, with Salman eventually being acquitted of all charges in 2015 due to insufficient evidence.
