Shah Rukh Khan, widely known for his box office success and significant influence on modern pop culture, has always been appreciated for his quick wit and sharp sense of humour. However, he now feels it might be best to “not have a sense of humour” in today’s world. He shared this perspective in a recent conversation.
The actor attended the Locarno Film Festival a few months ago, where he was a guest on the Locarno Meets podcast. During the chat, he opened up about his desire to explore comedy films while acknowledging that his humour often doesn’t land as expected. “I’ll be honest, I think I have an innate sense of humour, and I can make people laugh, but it’s very inappropriate times also. So I try to control myself, I’m told by my team all the time, people don’t understand your humour,” he shared.
He also spoke about the increasing sensitivity in society, where many jokes and comedians face backlash for being politically incorrect. “But now people have become very sensitive. You say something, and everybody, somebody gets disturbed. It’s better to not have a sense of humour,” Shah Rukh noted.
Shah Rukh further discussed his interest in trying out new film genres. Although he’s best known for his iconic roles in romance and has recently had great success with action films, he expressed a desire to venture into comedy or horror. “As an actor, I think comedy is very difficult. I think it’s a very serious business. It’s very difficult. It’s the one that there’s most actors failed. It’s where I have failed,” he admitted.
After his remarkable return to the big screen last year, with three major box office hits—two surpassing Rs 1000 crore—Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly working on a new project with his daughter Suhana Khan, under the direction of Sujoy Ghosh in the film King.
