Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped a shooting incident near the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday. While performing religious penance as prescribed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Badal, seated in a wheelchair, was unharmed as the bullet struck a nearby wall. The attacker, Narain Singh, was subdued by bystanders and arrested by police. Authorities revealed Singh's criminal history, including arms-related offenses, and are investigating his motives. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar commended the swift response of officers who prevented further harm. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Sukhbir’s wife, visited the site shortly after the incident.
