Most Indians believe that the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a symbol of national pride and unity, News18's Mega Opinion Poll has revealed.
The survey, India's biggest opinion poll, covers a sample size of over 1.18 lakh eligible voters across 21 states and different demographic backgrounds.
About 60 percent of the respondents agreed that the Ram Temple symbolises India’s pride while 20 percent did not agree.
The respondents were aged between 18 and 66 plus years. Of these 1,18,616 respondents, 64,453 were men and 54,163 were women.
The Ayodhya Ram Temple was opened to the public on January 23 after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony was held on January 22 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Constructed in the traditional Nagara style, the temple is built on the 2.77 acres of disputed land acknowledged by the Supreme Court as the birthplace of Lord Ram.
Inaugurating the Ayodhya Ram temple in India's most populated state Uttar Pradesh, which has 80 Lok Sabha seats, may help catapult Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a record third successive term in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It may also help the BJP fulfil its target of 370 plus seats.
Nearly 7,500 people, including elite industrialists, politicians and movie stars, witnessed the consecration on a giant screen outside the temple as an Indian Air Force helicopter showered flower petals.
The Centre turned the event into a national occasion by organising live screenings across the country and closing state-run offices for half a day. Saffron flags adorned the streets of various cities where BJP workers and followers had gone door to door handing out religious pamphlets.
The 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla, adorned with gold and flowers was revealed ahead of the “Pran Pratistha" ceremony at the Ayodhya temple.
According to reports, BJP supporters feel the fulfilment of the long-term promise will garner voters across the length and breadth of the country and propel it to 400-plus seats and a 50 percent vote share.
