Political scientist Ian Bremmer said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to retain power "pretty easily" in the ongoing general elections. Speaking to PTI following a discussion with Indian C-suite executives organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Bremmer contrasted the Indian election with the upcoming US elections, noting that unlike in the US, where the legitimacy of the vote might become a contentious issue, the Indian election is not expected to be “controversial”.

At his public meeting in West Bengal's Kanthi, Union HM Amit Shah says, "Political violence has almost finished democracy in West Bengal. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti says, "...BJP is using such parties whose people got the money via Hawala for militancy...BJP can do anything to keep Mehbooba Mufti out (of elections)..."

Within five days of announcement of election dates, ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal without any evidence," says Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi during a press conference.

Delhi minister Atishi says, "I would like to alert the people of Delhi - don't get lured into the conspiracy of BJP. I would also like to tell BJP - you can't fool the people of Delhi, they are going to give all 7 seats to INDIA Alliance this time...We will immediately write to Haryana Government. If needed, we will also move an urgent application before the court...If no action is taken on our letter to Haryana Government, we will approach the Supreme Court if needed."

Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi says, "Ahead of the voting on 25th May (in Delhi), BJP has hatched a new conspiracy to target AAP and disturb the people of Delhi. Under this conspiracy, through its Haryana government, the BJP has stopped the water flow to Delhi. This has been done to disturb the people of Delhi and cause a water crisis here. Yamuna water supply to Delhi is being stopped...An investigation revealed that Haryana Government is stopping the Yamuna water flow to Delhi..."

"INDIA alliance is going to form the government. Akhilesh Yadav has said that the INDIA alliance will win 79 seats in Uttar Pradesh and will have a tough fight on one seat. Samajwadi (Party) has given a slogan '80 haarao, BJP hatao' and this will come true," says Samajwadi Party leader Fakrul Hasan Chand.

INDIA Alliance's candidate from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, Congress party's JP Agarwal says, "This is my home, I have a connection with people...I filed my 20th election nomination from there...I will work on every issue related to the constituency - from the smallest to the biggest..." On BJP claiming that it will win all 7 seats in Delhi, he says, "...They will win if people like their not issues being raised or their MPs not speaking up. But if people want to hear their elected representatives, they will not win..."

Congress candidate from Mandi, Vikramaditya Singh says, "I want to say to the state employees that work for the stable govt in the state. This govt will complete its tenure but in any case, if the Jairam Thakur government comes, the BJP govt will de-notify the OPS on the very first day. That will be the most unfortunate decision for the employees in the state. After the elections, we will pass a law in the state assembly to protect the rights of employees that none of the upcoming governments can alter it..."

Braille ballot papers are being prepared by the Election Commission of India to enable visually impaired people to take part in the election process and cast their votes for Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Braille press in charge at Institute for Blind, Vishwajeet says, "We are receiving such orders from the last 10-15 years whenever there is any election in Punjab, Haryana or Chandigarh. This helps the visually impaired people to cast their votes independently... This ballot paper will go to every booth. we made all these ballot papers by keeping in mind the instructions that are there by the Election Commission of India..."

- Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that in the last five phases of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has been "partially fractured" politically, which will be "complete" after the last round of polling on June 1.

- The TMC national general secretary also asserted that people of the country have already given their mandate against the saffron party and its "exit is definite" after the election results are out.

- Speaking in support of TMC candidate from Bankura Lok Sabha constituency Arup Chakraborty, Banerjee said, "The life of the present BJP government at the Centre is only 10 days".

- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday attacked the Congress over the inheritance tax issue and claimed that it was "similar to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's 'jizya' that was imposed to convert Hindus to Islam".

- Addressing multiple poll rallies in six Lok Sabha seats in the state, he alleged that Congress has plans to "distribute your property to Muslim infiltrators from countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan" and asserted that the BJP would foil such attempts.

The Election Commission on Tuesday directed the Andhra Pradesh police chief to take strict criminal action against a ruling YSRCP MLA who was caught on camera damaging an EVM in the Macherla assembly constituency during the May 13 polls. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were damaged on May 13 in seven polling stations in Macherla constituency, including in polling station number 202 where local MLA P Ramakrishna Reddy allegedly damaged an EVM.

- YSRCP MLA P Ramakrishna Reddy was caught on camera allegedly damaging an EVM in the Macherla assembly constituency during the May 13 polls.

- Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asserted that the BJP-led central government accomplished in 10 years what the Congress could not do even in 60 years of its rule. Addressing a poll meeting in support of BJP's West Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Gadkari appealed to the people to vote for BJP if they want pollution-free air and water in the national capital.

- "This election, in its truest sense, is for deciding the future of the country. I can tell you that what the Congress could not do in 60 years, we did it in 10 years under Modiji. We have come to you with our report card," he told the gathering. Praising Sehrawat, he said that if people support her, she will work towards development.

Repolling has been ordered at two booths in Odisha where voting was disrupted on May 20, a statement issued by the Chief Electoral Officer said on Tuesday.

Repolling will be held at booth numbers 26 and 28 in Kantamal assembly segment of Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat from 7 am to 4 pm on May 23, it said.

Polling was held in these two booths in Kantamal assembly seat along with 34 other assembly segments and five Lok Sabha seats on May 20.

The polling process was disrupted in the two booths due to some incidents, sources said.

In his first poll meeting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after returning from the UK following an eye surgery, AAP MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be voting for Congress and Rahul Gandhi will be voting for AAP when the national capital goes to polls. Addressing a poll meeting in South Delhi in support of party's Lok Sabha pick Sahi Ram Pahalwan, Chadha said, "I am here to support my brother not only because he is a good person but also because this election is about saving the country and the Constitution."

4 MLAs in Odisha have been issued showcause notice by the State Assembly after they switched parties from BJD to BJP. They have asked to reply by May 27

- A cycling expedition flagged off by the Himachal Pradesh election department from Shimla to create awareness among voters reached Tashigang, the world's highest polling booth in Lahaul and Spiti district, officials said on Tuesday.

- Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg said that the expedition by the 'State Election Icon' Jaspreet Pal, an avid cyclist and a professional photographer from Mandi, concluded at Tashigang late on Monday evening. Jaspreet was accompanied by his co-cyclist Kshitij Niltu. The duo cycled 630 km in seven days in the tough terrain of Spiti passing by Shimla, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur, Jeuri, Bhavanagar, Karcham-Wangtoo, Reckong-Peo, Pooh, Khab, Nako, Sumdo and Kaza.

According to the advisory, Prime Minister Modi will visit DDA Park at Dwarka sector-14, opposite Vegas Mall, on Wednesday at 6 pm to address the rally.

Large number of people are expected to attend this rally which may affect the traffic on surrounding roads, it said. The traffic will be diverted from ISKON Chowk, Om Apartment Chowk, DXR T-point on Golf Course Road, Dwarka Mor, Kargil Chowk, Rajpuri crossing, etc, the Delhi Police advisory said.
