After the INDIA bloc's strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the fight was to save the Constitution.

“This was a fight to save the Constitution of the country and has emerged victorious in it. The country has said that they do not want Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to run the country," said Gandhi while addressing a press conference in New Delhi.  “I want to thank our party workers and INDIA bloc leaders for joining hands to save the Constitution. We respect our alliance partners for coming together. This is a huge message to Narendra Modi that people didn’t like the way you governed the country."

He said the Congress would hold a meeting with INDIA  bloc partners on Wednesday. "We respect our alliance partners and we won't make statements to the press without asking them," he said.

The Congress leader also thanked the people of Wayanad and Raebareli.  "I have to decide which seat I will keep. I will ask and make a decision," he said.

"We fought this election not just against BJP but also the institutions, the governance structure of the country, the intelligence agencies CBI &EDI, judiciary because all these institutions were captured by Amit Shah & Narendra Modi ji...," he said.

Meanwhile, Congress chief Mallikarjun thanked the people of the country for not giving mandate just to a single party and said that this is the victory of democracy. “You all know that the Congress has fought the elections facing multiple difficulties. Our bank accounts were frozen, but we ensured that the campaign continued to be positive throughout. We fought the elections based on issues of inflation, unemployment but on the other hand the PM was spreading false narratives," said Kharge while speaking  about the results. "

Kharge also  said the the BJP made "several attempts to crush the Opposition". "Those who agreed to stand with him were supported and attempts were made to crush others and to drag them behind bars. But our fight has not reached its destination yet, in the coming days we will continue to fight for the country’s development, for the constitution, for the benefit of the people," he said.
