Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bunty Vivek Sahu has emerged victorious in the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency. Sahu defeated NC’s Nakul Nath, son of former chief minister Kamal Nath by 1,13,618 votes. Sahu amassed 6,44,738 votes whereas Nakul Nath managed to garner 5,31,120 votes.
Traditionally, the Chhindwara constituency has been a stronghold for the BJP. In the 2019 elections, Nakul Nath emerged victorious by over 50,000 votes as he defeated BJP’s’ Nathan Shah. Nakul Nath had 47.04% vote share in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Chhindwara was the only seat which the Congress won as BJP swept the polls winning 28 of the 29 seats in the state. In 2024, the BJP has gone one step ahead and swept all 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh.
In 2014, it was Congress stalwart Kamal Nath who won the seat defeating BJP’s Chandrabhan Kuber Singh. Kamal Nath secured 50.54% vote share in 2014.
The seat held more significance for the Nath family as it has been their bastion for over two decades. Kamal Nath won from Chhindwara in 1999, 2004, and 2009 elections as well.
Voting was done in the first phase of 2024 Lok Sabha elections on April 19 and the turnout was 79.83%.
