The Maharashtra government has issued a strict directive for all beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana. Women enrolled in the scheme must complete a mandatory e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) process within the next two months to continue receiving the monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500.
The announcement was formalized through an official Government Resolution (GR). The directive comes after the government discovered widespread enrollment of ineligible beneficiaries, including men, who fraudulently availed of the scheme's benefits.
Why is e-KYC Mandatory?
The Ladki Bahin Yojana, launched in July 2024, is a flagship initiative aimed at providing financial support to eligible women aged 21 to 65 from families with an annual income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh. However, a recent audit revealed a major loophole in the system.
"Lack of transparency in the initial enrollment process led to approximately 26.34 lakh ineligible individuals registering for the scheme," an official stated. This new e-KYC drive is a corrective measure to weed out fraudulent beneficiaries and ensure that the aid reaches only the intended women.
Aditi Tatkare, Maharashtra's Minister for Women and Child Development, took to the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) to inform the public.
"The e-KYC facility has been made available on the web portal 'ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in' for all beneficiaries," Minister Tatkare announced. She urged all eligible women to complete the verification within the stipulated two-month window.
She further clarified that this step is crucial not only for maintaining transparency but also for ensuring uninterrupted benefits. The minister added that completing the e-KYC would also make it easier for women to avail benefits of other government schemes in the future.
How to Complete the e-KYC Process?
The government has assured that the process is simple and user-friendly. Beneficiaries need to visit the official portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in and follow the instructions for e-KYC, which will likely involve linking and verifying their Aadhaar details with their scheme account.
