His world was once the boundless sky. As a helicopter pilot with the Indian Air Force, Vijay Arisetty’s office was the cockpit, his mission was rescue, and his purpose was clear: to save lives. He flew through peace and peril, earning India’s Shaurya Chakra for a daring act of courage during the 2004 tsunami, where he plucked hundreds from the raging waters in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
But destiny has a way of changing course. A serious sports injury grounded him permanently, stripping him of his wings. The man who once navigated storms was suddenly earthbound, facing a silent and uncertain future.
For many, this could have been an end. For Vijay, it was merely a change in altitude. He refused to live an insignificant life. He traded his flight manuals for business books, enrolling at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. He then soared in the corporate world, becoming a Vice President at Goldman Sachs—a comfortable, prestigious perch by any measure.
Yet, a quiet unease lingered. He looked at the new landscape of urban India—the crores living in gated apartments—and saw a different kind of vulnerability. He saw weary security guards with paper registers, missed deliveries, and a growing disconnect between neighbours. The very homes people felt safest in had outdated, porous security. The pilot who saved people from nature’s fury now felt a new calling: to protect them in their daily lives.
In 2016, he made a leap. He left his corporate career and, with partners Abhishek Kumar and Shreyans Daga, founded MyGate.
His idea was simple yet revolutionary: use technology to transform the simple apartment gate into a smart, secure command center. The MyGate app connects residents, security guards, and society management on one digital platform. It ensures every visitor is verified, every delivery is tracked, and every emergency alert reaches instantly.
From a daring rescue pilot to a corporate leader, Vijay had combined all his experiences—military precision, strategic business thinking, and a profound desire to serve—into this single venture. He wasn't just building an app; he was building peace of mind for modern urban families.
Today, MyGate safeguards over 40 lakh homes across India. The company, born from a grounded pilot’s vision, is now valued at a staggering Rs 1,670 crore. But for Vijay, the true measure of success isn't in the figures. It’s in the parent who feels assured their child is safe, in the elderly resident who gets help with a tap, and in the thousands of housing societies that have become closer, smarter communities.
Vijay Arisetty’s journey teaches us that a setback is just a new flight path waiting to be discovered. He fell from the sky, only to build a fortress on the ground—proving that once a protector, always a protector. His life is a powerful reminder: when you are driven by purpose, you don’t just build a company, you build a legacy of safety, one home at a time.
