Doha is not just a tourist hotspot for Indians. The Qatar capital, which attracts tourists with the slogan 'It’s My Place, My Choice', topped the league of 14 overseas centres as home to 4.3 percent of the students who secured more than 600 in the medical entrance test this year.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) this year saw 5,000 foreign students in fray for entrance in Indian medical colleges. The proportion of students bagging over 600 marks was 2.7 percent for the overseas exam centres, shows a Moneycontrol analysis of data released by National Testing Agency.

The national average was 3.5 percent for nearly 2.4 million students who gave the test this year.

The most number of applicants were from Dubai, which accounted for nearly 20 percent of those appearing in offshore centres, followed by Singapore.

The clearing percentage with over 600 scores from Dubai was higher at 3.8 percent, while that for Singapore was 1.9 percent.

Colombo, Kathmandu and Lagos were the worst performers with none of the over 350 students appearing for NEET securing high scores.

On the other hand, Bahrain’s Manama had a higher pass percentage at 3.7 percent.

A region-wise comparison shows that South East Asia had better performance, albeit with fewer students, with a clearing rate of 3.1 percent, while Middle East’s clearance rate was 2.9 percent.

Riyadh was the worst performer in the Middle East with 1.1 percent of those appearing for exam scoring over 600 in the test.
