Delhi Air Pollution: The national capital continues to grapple with a severe air pollution crisis, forcing authorities to take stringent measures. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has suspended physical classes till November 22, shifting to online mode due to the hazardous air quality index (AQI) levels. Following suit, schools in Gurugram district, Haryana, will also remain closed till November 23.

As the air quality deteriorated to severe levels across several cities, including Mumbai and parts of northern India, the Supreme Court intervened, directing Delhi and NCR states to strictly implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage IV anti-pollution measures. The court also ordered the formation of monitoring teams to ensure compliance with the plan.

GRAP is a set of measures implemented based on the severity of air pollution. Stage IV restrictions are enforced when the AQI reaches severe levels. Delhi's AQI soared to 457 on Sunday evening, triggering the implementation of these stringent measures.

The deteriorating air quality poses significant health risks, especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and those with respiratory ailments. Experts urge citizens to minimize outdoor activities and take necessary precautions to protect their health.
