  • Last month, a fatal accident occurred in Noida Sector 150

A car fell into an open drain in Sector 71’s Phase-3 area late Thursday night in Noida. The accident took place in the Basai region, highlighting ongoing risks on city roads, barely a month after a similar mishap led to the death of a young software engineer.

According to police, the four-wheeler accidentally slipped into an uncovered drain while moving through the area. The vehicle’s owner, who was inside the car at the time, managed to escape without serious injury. Locals alerted the police soon after the incident.

A team from the Phase-3 police station reached the spot and began rescue operations. After sustained efforts, the police were able to pull the vehicle out of the drain. Officials said no casualties were reported in the incident.

The latest incident comes close on the heels of a fatal accident in Noida Sector 150 last month, where 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta lost his life. On the night of January 16, Mehta’s SUV crashed through a damaged roadside barricade and plunged into a deep construction pit filled with water.

Police had said that the accident occurred in the early hours of January 17 when Mehta’s vehicle lost control and fell into a pit over 20 feet deep near a drain at an intersection under the Knowledge Park police station area in Greater Noida. Dense fog had reduced visibility, making it difficult for the driver to spot the excavation.

A large-scale rescue operation involving police, fire services, SDRF and NDRF teams was launched, but Mehta’s body was recovered several hours later. Preliminary investigations suggested poor visibility and possible overspeeding as contributing factors.

Following the incident, a delivery agent who witnessed the accident claimed that rescue efforts were delayed and said the victim might have survived if help had arrived sooner. The incident triggered public anger, leading the Noida Authority to dismiss a junior engineer from its traffic cell and issue show-cause notices to other officials.

Authorities later reviewed safety arrangements at construction sites and installed barricades at the location.
