Unconscious air hostess on ventilator sexually assaulted by staff of private hospital in Gurugram

An air hostess was allegedly sexually assaulted when she was on ventilator support in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Gurugram on April 6, police said.

According to the police, the 46-year-old air hostess was hospitalised after becoming unwell following a swimming session at her hotel's pool. She was admitted to a private hospital in Gurugram on April 5 and was discharged on April 13, according to her statement.

In her complaint to the police, the woman alleged that a hospital staff sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious on a ventilator on April 6. She claimed that she was unable to speak or react due to her medical condition and that two nurses were present nearby at the time of the incident.

The victim stated that she had travelled to Gurugram for company-sponsored training and was staying at a hotel. During her stay, she experienced a health emergency following a drowning incident and was subsequently admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Following her initial treatment, the woman was admitted to another hospital in Gurugram on April 5. She remained there until her discharge on April 13.

After being discharged, she informed her husband about the alleged assault. He subsequently contacted the emergency helpline and later lodged a formal complaint with the police.

"A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station in Gurugram based on the victim's complaint. A police team visited the hospital to examine the staff duty roster and review CCTV footage in order to identify the accused," said Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar.

He further stated that the accused’s statement has been recorded and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the individual involved.

There has been no official statement by the hospital management on the incident till now.
