Telangana pharma factory blast: Death toll rises to 35 after explosion at Sigachi Industries unit; rescue ops continue

The death toll in the explosion at Sigachi Chloro Chemical Private Limited increased to 35 on Tuesday evening.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced a compensation of ₹1 crore to families of the workers who died in the blast and ₹ 10 lakh to those injured. The fatal accident is suspected to have been caused by a chemical reaction.

A suspected reactor explosion on Monday triggered a blast and fire at the Sigachi Chemical Industry in Pashamylaram. Telangana health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha was quoted by HT saying that around 90 employees were in the factory at the time of the incident. As per the report, the explosion is suspected to have been caused by a chemical reaction.

Sigachi Industries Limited is a pharmaceutical company dedicated to pioneering advancements in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Intermediates, Excipients, vitamin-mineral blends, and Operations and Management (O&M) services, according to the company's website.
