The nascent year has witnessed a chilling escalation from the Lawrence Bishnoi organised crime syndicate, which executed a co-ordinated series of brazen attacks in India and Canada within a 48-hour window, signalling a new phase of sophisticated, transcontinental intimidation.
This week’s violence underscores a gang operating with unprecedented reach and a deliberate psychological strategy. In a stark display of dual-front capability, Delhi was rattled by two separate shootings at business premises on a single day, while simultaneously, a businessman’s home in Brampton, Canada was sprayed with bullets.
The incidents in Delhi were textbook exercises in terror. At a location in Paschim Vihar, the gang issued a direct death threat, referencing a past assassination, according to a TOI report. “Next time, if you don’t pick up the call, I will have you picked up from the earth. You will meet the same fate as Nadir Shah…”, they warned, referring to a victim gunned down in September 2024.
In a separate east Delhi attack, assailants recorded themselves firing shots into the air — a signature move designed for viral dissemination and maximum intimidation.
The synchrony with the nearly concurrent shooting in Brampton, alongside two other affiliated attacks claimed in Brantford, Canada, revealed a formidable command structure. “This coordinated synchronicity between Delhi and Brampton highlights a level of command and control that few criminal organisations can maintain,” a retired senior police officer was cited by TOI as saying.
Analysts believe this offensive marks a deliberate new chapter, coinciding with the Canadian government’s recent declaration of the gang as a terrorist entity for its involvement in homicides, extortion and violent acts. Having spent much of 2025 consolidating its position, the syndicate now appears to be flexing its evolved muscle.
Their modus operandi abroad involves a veneer of social justification. In claiming responsibility for attacks on multiple restaurants in British Columbia and, last week, on Kabaddi League promoter Davinder Mann in Delta, Surrey, the group has peddled a ‘Robin Hood’ narrative. They allege targets exploit workers or support enemies, while simultaneously demanding substantial extortion payments.
Adding a layer of complexity to law enforcement efforts is a web of strategic deception surrounding the gang’s leadership. Late last year, rumours swirled of a major rift between Lawrence Bishnoi and his key lieutenants, Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar.
While factions reportedly formed — with figures like Aarzoo Bishnoi and Goldy Dhillon aligning with Bishnoi — the purported split is now widely viewed by sources as a calculated feint.
A source was as cited by TOI as saying that both Brar and Godara were effectively creations of Bishnoi and would likely become defunct if he withdrew his backing. The source suggested the narrative of a split had been advantageous, allowing the syndicate to focus on bolstering its international operations amidst the distraction.
This smokescreen appears to have caused some operational confusion even among affiliates, with different henchmen claiming the same overseas shootings. However, the underlying reality points toward a unified network strengthening its global logistics under a centralised strategy.
