Four person from Assam, all working as security guards at a private warehouse, were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a rented room on the outskirts of Bengaluru city on Saturday.
According to reports in media, all four were employed at a soft drinks warehouse and were sleeping in a rented room located in Hoskote taluk when the incident happened. They moved to Bengaluru only four months ago.
They have been identified as Jayant Sindhe, 25, Neerendranath, 24, Doctor Tide, 25 and Dhananjay Tide, 20.
According to The Hindu, the deaths may have been caused due to suffocation, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. According to a report in TOI, police suspect they died overnight from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by fumes from a stove inside the closed room.
Police officers were quoted by The Hindu as saying that the workers had allegedly cooked food inside the shed late on Friday night after shutting all doors and windows. Poor ventilation may have led to oxygen depletion or inhalation of toxic fumes, resulting in their deaths.
The bodies have been shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are recording statements from co-workers, warehouse management staff and contractors are being recorded. Sulibele Police have filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR).
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he will speak to his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah to facilitate return of the bodies at the earliest.
