Just days before Holi injects its annual burst of colour into the country, a Jaipur eatery has set social media abuzz with a festive menu that puts a bhang-infused spin on traditional sweets. From crispy bhang jalebis to creamy bhang rasmalai, the offerings have sparked a mix of amusement, curiosity and cautious humour among netizens.
Food vloggers recently visited the establishment and shared videos on Instagram showcasing the special Holi menu, which prominently features the intoxicating leaf in several classic Indian desserts. The clips has since gone viral, drawing thousands of views and a flood of reactions.
At the heart of the spread is the "Holi Special Bhang Jalebi," described by the vlogger as "garma garam, crispy, golden and packed with that special festive twist." The video captures the syrup-drenched spirals being served fresh, their sheen promising the indulgent sweetness that precedes the herb's more profound effects.
The bhang-themed offerings extend further to include Bhang Rasmalai — which a vlogger called "soft and melt-in-the-mouth" — alongside Bhang Biscuits, positioned as "perfect little festive bites," and Bhang Peda, catering to those who prefer their mithai with a traditional touch but an unconventional addition.
However, the restaurant has not completely abandoned tradition for novelty. The menu thoughtfully retains classic Holi favourites for those who might prefer to steer clear of bhang.
Listed among these are Phag Ras, a seasonal festive drink; the quintessential Gujiya that remains synonymous with Holi celebrations across North India; and a hybrid creation — Thandai Flavoured Gujiya — that merges two festive staples into one nostalgic bite.
For those looking to share the festive spirit, the eatery is also offering curated Holi Hampers, designed for gifting to friends, family or office colleagues. The video shows these hampers to be thoughtfully packed, adding a gifting angle to the outlet's festive outreach.
The comments section beneath the videos quickly turned into a lively forum, reflecting the internet's characteristic blend of humour and curiosity. One user offered a light-hearted warning: "Bhai jali samajh kar ziada mat kha lena warna tapana mushkil ho jaye ga" (Brother, don't eat too much thinking it's just jalebi, or it'll be hard to stand up afterwards).
Another quipped, "Bhaang + Meetha phir toh holi multiverse mein khelenge" (Bhaang + sweets, then we'll be playing in a Holi multiverse). Yet another comment simply declared, "Ye hua na unique celebration" (Now this is what you call a unique celebration).
But amid the amusement, a dissenting voice emerged, warning potential customers against falling for what they termed a marketing gimmick. "Dont let this gimmick fool you. Last year mene paise waste kiye the ispe. Not worth of a single penny. Is se toh asli vala gola le ao jyada effective or sasta bhi," the user wrote, claiming to have wasted money on the experience last year and suggesting that traditional bhang preparations offer better value and effectiveness at a lower cost.
However, with its inventive fusion of bhang and traditional mithai, the Jaipur establishment appears to have struck a chord with those seeking to elevate their Holi festivities beyond the usual gujiya and thandai.
