A Class 7 student in Bengaluru died by suicide, with authorities investigating a possible link to the popular Japanese web series 'Death Note,' News18 reported.

The incident happened in the CK Acchukattu area on the intervening night of August 3. Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death, particularly focusing on the possibility of the web series influencing the child's actions.

The probe indicates the minor was an avid viewer of the series and had drawn a character from it in his room. The detail has led investigators to consider whether the series may have influenced his actions, the report added.

The minor’s parents were quoted by News18 as saying that he was not facing any known difficulties at school or home, and the exact reasons behind his extreme step remain unclear.

As per the report, the police continue to probe the matter and have seized the boy’s mobile phone for forensic analysis.

For the unversed, ‘Death Note’ revolves around a high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook, the “Death Note", which grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.

The series centres around the student’s subsequent use of the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals whom he deems immoral and to create a crime-free society, and the subsequent efforts of the Japanese police task force to apprehend him.
