Tata Sierra records over 70,000 bookings on day 1

The Tata Sierra price starts at Rs 11.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata will start delivering the Sierra to customers on January 15.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) said the Tata Sierra received over 70,000 confirmed bookings on December 16, the first day of bookings for the mid-size SUV. The company also stated that around 1.35 lakh customers submitted their preferred configurations for the new model.

"On the very first day of bookings officially opening, the Sierra set a new benchmark for customer excitement and trust, recording over 70,000 confirmed bookings and an additional 1.35 lakh customers submitting their preferred configuration as they progress to complete booking formalities," Tata said in an official communication.

Bookings for the Tata Sierra can be made at authorised Tata dealerships or through the company's website. The booking amount is set at Rs 21,000. This amount will be adjusted against the final vehicle price.

The Tata Sierra price starts at Rs 11.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is offered in seven trims -- Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+.

The Sierra is available with three engine options. The first is a 1.5-litre Hyperion T-GDi petrol engine producing 160PS and 255Nm. This engine is paired only with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The second option is a 1.5-litre Revotron naturally aspirated petrol engine. It develops 106PS and 145Nm. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The third engine is a 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel unit. It delivers 118PS and up to 280Nm, depending on the variant. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The Tata Sierra also gets selectable drive and terrain modes. Drive modes include City and Sport. Terrain modes include Normal, Wet and Rough.

In the Hyperion petrol automatic range, prices start at Rs 17.99 lakh for the Adventure+ AT. The Accomplished AT is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh. The Accomplished+ AT costs Rs 20.99 lakh.

The Revotron petrol range starts at Rs 11.49 lakh for the Smart+ MT. Prices go up to Rs 17.99 lakh for the Accomplished MT. Automatic variants in this range are priced up to Rs 16.79 lakh for the Adventure DCA.

Prices for the Kryojet diesel Sierra start at Rs 12.99 lakh for the Smart+ MT. The range tops out at Rs 21.29 lakh for the Accomplished+ AT.

The Tata Sierra competes in the mid-size SUV segment. Key rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

In terms of design, the Sierra features a tall and upright SUV stance. All lighting elements are LED. The SUV runs on 19-inch alloy wheels and uses integrated body cladding. Inside, it gets a triple-screen dashboard layout with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display. Feature highlights include a JBL Black 12-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos, a dash-mounted soundbar and ambient lighting on higher trims. Tata also claims the Sierra offers the largest panoramic sunroof in its segment.

On the safety front, the Tata Sierra comes with Level 2+ ADAS offering 22 functions. Connected car technology and multiple comfort features are also included.

Tata has also released results from controlled tests conducted at NATRAX Indore. During a certified 12-hour run on November 30, the Sierra Hyperion T-GDi petrol automatic recorded a mileage of 29.9kmpl. In a separate high-speed circuit test, the SUV achieved a top speed of 222kmph. Both figures were recorded under monitored conditions with trained drivers. Customer vehicles, however, will be electronically limited to a top speed of 190kmph.
