JSW MG Motor India will launch the MG M9 in the country on July 21. The new electric MPV will be sold from the company's premium MG Select dealerships alongside the MG Cyberster electric roadster.
The M9 will be assembled at JSW MG's Halol plant from completely knocked-down (CKD) kits, while the Cyberster will enter India as a completely built-up (CBU) model.
Motor, Battery & Range
The M9 uses a 245 PS/350 Nm motor that draws power from a 90 kWh battery. There is no all-wheel-drive setup with the motor mounted on the front axle. When it comes to range, JSW MG is targeting over 500 km on a single full charge for the M9. However, we expect the real-world range to be somewhere around 400-425 km.
Charging Capabilities
The MG M9 can be recharged from empty to full in just 1 hour and 30 minutes when plugged into a 160 kW DC fast charger. If using a standard 11 kW AC charger, a complete charge takes approximately 10 hours.
Exterior Design
At the front, the electric MPV showcases sleek LED headlights paired with daytime running lights, giving it a sharp and modern look. A wide trapezoidal mesh grille lends some boldness to its appearance. The rear features a connected taillight setup, while the vehicle rolls on durable 19-inch self-sealing tires. Electric sliding doors elevate both convenience and the overall premium appeal.
Interior & Features
Step inside, and the M9 greets you with a plush Cognac Brown interior draped in high-quality leather. Luxury is at the forefront, highlighted by second-row ottoman seats offering eight massage functions. Additional high-end touches include touchscreen armrests, a three-zone climate control system, and a panoramic sunroof that enhances the sense of space and comfort.
Pricing & Market Positioning
The MG M9 is expected to launch in India at an estimated price of Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom). While it currently doesn't face direct competition in the electric vehicle segment, the diesel-powered Kia Carnival, priced at Rs 63.91 lakh (ex-showroom), could be considered a comparable alternative in terms of pricing.
MG's EV Portfolio
In addition to the M9, JSW MG's electric vehicle portfolio in India includes more accessible options, such as the Comet, ZS EV, and Windsor, catering to a broader market segment.
MG Select
JSW MG has planned 14 MG Select dealerships across 13 cities in the first phase. The maiden Delhi showroom will open on July 18.
